Halloween in Sitges!
The scariest time of the year is approaching… and you don’t know how you’re going to celebrate it in Sitges? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with all the information you need.
In spite of being Halloween a party that’s not usually celebrated in Spain, in Sitges they’ve been adopting traditions like these since along time ago, thanks to its great cultural variety in terms of inhabitants and visitors who come throughout the year. In addition, for these dates the “castañada” is celebrated in Catalonia; a tradition originally celebrated on All Saints Day (November 1).
About the castañada, if you’ve never heard of it, it’s not much more than what its name implies. It refers to the tradition of eating chestnuts made on fire that, every year at this time, you can find at different stops in the streets of the town. They also eat “panellets”, a traditional Catalan sweet that occupies all the Catalan bakeries counters in Autumn.
In addition to the castañada, on All Saints’ Day in Sitges the cemeteries open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and offer activities such as the “Route of the Souls”, in which a tour is made through spectacular modernist burials in the cemetery of San Sebastián.
Yes, the traditions are very interesting, but where is the party?
