Corpus Christi 2017

This end of the week, Corpus Christi filled the village with colors, Giants and a sense of community. From early Sunday morning, the center of Sitges was alive. You could find flowers and smiles all around you.

As you walk in the city you are greeted with the smell of coffee, pastries and dried grass, which offered quite a unique smell for this coastal village. Corpus Christi is the celebration of the holiest body of Christ. It is also known as the day of wreaths.

In Sitges the streets are transformed with murals made out of flowers, bringing a colorful atmosphere. Early in the morning the flowers are being installed (there is also a small competition for the best flower mural) and around 8 pm the religious ceremony starts. The ceremony includes a typical Spanish band and giant wooden structure known as “gegants” and serves as head of the blessed sacraments.

The band plays through the streets of the village with the wooden statues behind them, stepping on the murals along the way.

StaySitges is proud to say that we can offer apartments such as the MANOLO, which is located near the main space for this event. If you want to discover what Corpus is next year, don’t hesitate.

On the beach, in front of the church, you could also find the annual beach rugby tournament, which brings all the children’s team from different parts of Cataluña.
