Sitges Malvasia week

The well-known “Malvasía de Sitges” is a type of wine made from the Sitgean malvasía grape, grown only in local fields; its late harvest and proximity to the sea, among other factors, distinguish it from other varieties of malvasia grown in other parts of the world.

There is evidence of the cultivation of this grape in Garraf since 1300, from Greece, specifically from the city of Monemvasia (hence its name). To this day it has overcome the war of the Segadors, the plague of the Phylloxera and the civil war, and continues to accompany the desserts and sweeten the “xatonades” of the Sitgeans.

Honoring the history of our grape, the “Malvasia de Sitges” week is celebrated every year. This year and for the sixth time, it is celebrated from the 9th to the 20th of May, and several establishments will offer tapas, menus and dishes specially prepared for the occasion. There is also scheduled a tasting of Malvasia wines from Sitges, open to all audiences.
